Subway Military - Canada isn't exactly known for its military might, but you wouldn't know it from last week in Toronto. Whether you're a freeway or subway commuter, there are plenty of opportunities to see military action that seems impossible in recent days, with trains full of tanks seen crossing the 401 freeway and training conducted on abandoned railroad tracks.
Despite the predicament of Eastern Europe with much of the West on the coast, neither of these trends had anything to do with the threat of global conflict, both of which were well planned before the Ukraine invasion began.

The public is currently getting a first-hand look at the exercises that took place at the abandoned TTC Lower Bay Station on March 5 and 6 through an interesting series of photos shared by Canada's 48th Highlanders on Wednesday.

"The members of the 48th Canadian Highlanders are grateful to the TTC for the use of their equipment on March 5 and 6, 2022," he added, "Bay Lower Station was an exceptional environment for Soldiers to train and the regiment is proud to be a partner of the TTC's those responsible for safety and security."
The TTC issued an advisory to the public a day before the exercise, saying "the public may see small groups of unarmed uniformed soldiers in and around Bay Station."
It turns out that the TTC's description of the weapon may be simpler than most, as footage from the incident clearly shows soldiers with weapons. According to the TTC, no live ammunition was used in the exercise, which could have meant "no weapons".
If seeing soldiers in full uniform carrying long guns on an abandoned train wasn't cinematic enough, the Highlanders also wore gas masks during training and added more shots after the end.

The station - during the very active Bay Area - was abandoned for its existence. It opened in 1966 as part of an effort to temporarily connect the Yonge-University and Bloor-Danforth Lines.
